Detailed Review
Smart everyday helper or just an expensive toy? For a starting price of €309, Meta promises intelligent AI glasses in a striking, square design. Since I have been able to practically test several AI glasses by now, I am contextualizing the Meta Fury in this review in direct comparison to the competition, showing you unvarnished what its true strengths and weaknesses are in everyday life. The glasses were purchased by myself for this review.
Battery and Comfort
According to the specifications, the Meta Fury weighs exactly 59.9g, making it heavier than conventional glasses, but perfectly within limits for fully packed AI glasses. The frame itself overall makes a solid impression. According to the manufacturer, the battery lasts over 8 hours, which also proved to be realistic in my practical test. However, an absolute highlight for me was the included accessories: the scope of delivery includes a foldable charging case (203g) that provides up to 40 hours of additional battery life. When unboxing, I didn't even know that this was included and thought it had to be purchased separately. Thanks to a faux leather cover, the case feels extremely high-quality and is a very positive surprise.
Visual Impression
We can keep this short: like most purely AI glasses, the Meta Fury does not have an integrated display. Instead, it relies entirely on audio and camera feedback in combination with the smartphone. Around seven different models are offered on the website, two to three of which can be equipped with Transitions® lenses that automatically adapt to lighting conditions. For people with visual impairments, the glasses are suitable for prescription lenses (-12.00 to +2.25 diopters). However, I used the standard lenses for my test and did not try out prescription lenses.
Software
The glasses connect via Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi 6 to the smartphone, where the Meta AI app runs. Furthermore, there is 32 GB of internal storage (for approx. 1,000 photos or 100+ short videos).
- The Positive: The integration of Meta AI offers an enormous amount of built-in use cases. You can smoothly ask the AI questions ("Hey Meta"), have the environment analyzed, use the "Music Match," or start a live translation for over 20 languages. In everyday life, this works reliably and well.
- The Negative: The AI sometimes seems a bit confused when it comes to language. In my test, it happened once or twice that it suddenly addressed me in English and claimed it couldn't speak German – only to then flawlessly answer in German again the very next moment. A small bug that occasionally causes confusion.
Sound
According to the data sheet, the glasses feature unobtrusive open-ear speakers and a system of 6 microphones, promising excellent voice quality for calls and immersive audio (up to 77.55 dB). In practice, the sound absolutely convinced me: in my opinion, it is the best sound compared to all the other glasses I have tested so far. The speakers sound very balanced and voluminous. While you don't get extremely deep bass like with expensive high-end headphones here, unlike the competition – which often sounds very thin or artificially bass-heavy – the sound here is wonderfully balanced. Perfect for letting background music play relaxingly in everyday life. The only drawback: even turned up to the maximum, they are still relatively quiet.
Camera
The camera has a 12-megapixel resolution, a 100-degree ultra-wide field of view, and takes photos at 3,024 x 4,032 pixels. Videos can be recorded in 3K Ultra HD (30 FPS) or 1080p (up to 60 FPS). The operation is wonderfully intuitive and smooth (one click for a photo, hold down for a video). The camera generally works very reliably, even though the image stabilizer briefly failed during a video in my test.
The major practical issue: As soon as you are in a truly loud environment, the glasses become a total blind flight. Since the integrated display is missing, you are 100% reliant on the acoustic feedback (the shutter sound) when taking photos and filming. If you can no longer hear this sound due to ambient noise, you simply don't know whether the video has started, whether you pressed it long enough, or whether the recording has already stopped again. The lack of any visual feedback makes using the camera in noisy scenarios very unpleasant and exhausting.
Conclusion
The Meta Fury is an extremely well-rounded, albeit somewhat pricey package (starting at €309). In the test, it impresses with currently the best, most balanced sound among AI glasses, an intuitively operable camera, and an unexpectedly high-quality charging case that massively extends the battery life. The hiccups with the AI's language selection are forgivable. However, anyone who frequently wants to film in noisy environments must be aware that the lack of a display simply means you are missing crucial feedback. Nevertheless, for everyday use as a smart extension, it is an absolute top recommendation.
