Detailed Review
Welcome to the next review! This time, I took a look at the Mingtawn AI glasses. For a price of €169, they promise smart everyday functions. Since I've had quite a few AI glasses on my nose by now, I'll show you unvarnished whether this bargain is worth it or if it's a false economy.
Battery and Comfort
Visually, the Mingtawn looks quite sporty. According to the Amazon specs, it is extremely light at 35g and has a 270 mAh battery. However, as soon as you pick them up, you notice the low price: the build quality is rather poor, and the casing consists of the cheapest plastic. The buttons do work and can all be pressed satisfactorily, but it just doesn't feel particularly high-quality when wearing it.
Visual Impression
We can keep this short: the Mingtawn does not have an integrated display. Instead, it relies entirely on audio and camera feedback in combination with the smartphone.
Software
The glasses connect via Bluetooth to the smartphone, where the actual AI app runs.
- The Positive: Asking questions, including those about the surroundings (via the camera), actually works quite well. Since the underlying AI models are highly capable by now, the glasses also deliver decent answers here.
- The Negative: I find the app itself to be a bit confusing. I think it is definitely one of the weaker apps out there.
Sound
According to the data sheet, the glasses feature open-ear speakers and ENC dual microphones. The glasses have specially tilted temples, which is why I initially thought the audio might be particularly good. Unfortunately, the reality is different: the sound is actually notably bad. Anyone expecting even acceptable sound quality here will be disappointed.
Camera
The Amazon spec sheet promises a 4K HD 8MP camera with anti-shake technology. In practice, however, enormous weaknesses become apparent:
- Stabilization: The camera actually has quite poor stabilization.
- Image Quality: The footage looks very washed out and is also weirdly cropped.
- Focus: The focus is also a bit weird. It is neither set to complete distance nor completely close up; it is somewhere in the middle. This reinforces the impression that everything looks somewhat washed out.
Even if you only want to use the Mingtawn as video or photo glasses, the quality is not particularly good. Competitors from Meta and Rokid are definitely way ahead here.
Conclusion
For me, the Mingtawn AI glasses are definitely one of the absolute worst on the market right now. Even for €169, I wouldn't necessarily recommend them. You might want to dig a little deeper into your pockets instead.
